Thousand Islands Conservation Area is a 338-acre site located on the Banana River adjacent to Cocoa beach and consists of a series of islands in the Indian River Lagoon. The area is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including storks, alligators, manatees, as well as rare and endangered tropical plants. With the exception of a short nature trail along Fourth Street South, all access to islands is by boat. The primary access point is from Ramp Road boat ramp in Cocoa Beach.
A short nature trail exists on the northern most island known as North Crawford Island. The islands have many channels that provide great paddling opportunities. Marked paddling trails are currently in development Do’s and Don’ts Pets, smoking, alcohol, motorized vehicles, and hunting are prohibited. Removal of plants, animals, archeological, or cultural resources is prohibited Do not feed, disturb, or harm wildlife Stay on the trail for personal safety and protection of the natural environment
